Cashing cheques

Its not the first time I've seen this:

My cousin from a smaller community was given a cheque at his home community airport to be used for meals and incidentials in Iqaluit and Rankin Inlet.

Most of the smaller community population do not have bank accounts.  When they request to open bank accounts its usually by mail and it takes several weeks to do it.  Cashing cheques at Co-op and Northern stores and taking cash out is usually a normal thing to do.

Vote Mat Knickelbein for Iqaluit City Council on October 19th!

For those that might not know me, here is a little about myself.

I moved to Iqaluit over 20 years ago. I have, since then, been directly involved with Iqaluit's youth and education issues. After graduating from Inuksuk High School and working for a couple of years as classroom support at Joamie School, I went on to complete the Nunavut Teacher Education Program and earn a Bachelor of Education degree from McGill University. I am in my 11th year as a teacher here in Iqaluit and I care deeply about the future we are leaving for our children. I have also been actively involved with youth soccer programs for many years, coaching, fund-raising and travelling to various locations and tournaments. As an avid outdoors person, I spend most of any free time and holidays down at our family cabin about 20 miles south of Iqaluit. Hunting and fishing are year-round passions of mine.

Daycare

Hello All ~  My family and I are very much wanting to move to Iqaluit and are hoping to do so in the next couple of months.  I'm looking for any info on daycare, I have a year and a half old son.  I've found all the daycares online and I have him on waiting lists, but I'm looking for anyone with young children that might have some suggestions ...

Much appreciated !!

Books I've read

I love reading books and I've been lucky to have wonderful and motivating teachers to help me and got me hooked to reading.

I've just finished reading The Glass Castle and autobiography that is underdevelopment by Paramount. They had a really rough childhood and the children most time had to fend for themselves and at one time I even cried, :(

I've read Chicken Soup for Women's Souls 1 and 2.  To those mothers that need little inspiration this book will truly lift up your spirits.

Looking For Jehovah Witnesses Around Iqaluit

I am wondering if there are any Jehovah Witnesses around the city. I used to receive materials from someone from Ontario, but lost contact with him. If any Jehovah Witnesses from Iqaluit, that'd be great...
